Savanna Miska

Artist and Art Educator

I am a woman capable of many things. I would not be who I am today if it were not for my exposure to the arts as a child where I grew up in New Lenox, Illinois. I grew up spending lots of time with my grandmother working on arts and crafts before I was able to go to school, and even afterward I was always working on art projects with her. She had her own kiln and ceramic pieces she would paint. As I grew older I was able to share that experience and paint with her.

As I grew up in the education system I fell in love with the arts. I recall being selected for the art program at Liberty Junior High when I went into seventh grade. That is where everything shifted for me. I began making large advancements in my art work because I was exposed to many new techniques, methods, and media. I continued to take art classes when I went to continue my education at Lincoln-Way West high school where I graduated in 2015 as class vice president and a member of the honors society.

I attended Joliet Junior College for a year and a half with the intentions of becoming a meteorologist. Fortunately, I realized that art was something I was extremely passionate about to simply make as my hobby. January of 2017, I transferred to Northern Illinois University to pursue Art Education. While attending college I started my own business doing commission work and face painting. While earning my bachelors degree at Northern Illinois University, I was president of the National Art Education Association Student Chapter on campus for two years and was highly involved in other professional and community organizations, events, and experiences.

As a first year graduate of May 2020's graduating class, I am excited and eager to work with children and adolescents everyday to share a reciprocal learning experience where my students and I achieve our highest potential. Additionally, I appreciate your interest in learning more about myself and my contributions to art, education, and art + design education.
